Jordan 1 “Atlanta Hawks”, A Tribute To A Formidable Foe

The Air Jordan 1 “Atlanta Hawks” keeps the ball rolling with its NBA team-based looks, here sporting a Black/Gym Red-University Gold color-scheme, a nod to the OG uniforms of Atlanta Hawks, a team considered to be one of MJ’s “Formidable Foes”. Closer details of the sneakers reveal the film graphics across the upper that seem to point to Dominique Wilkins, aka the Human Highlight Reel, as the foe called out.

jordan_ubiq-blog_02Sports wouldn’t have it’s fan loyalty nor its players legacies if not for rivalries, as these iconic events have helped define the game. In the game of basketball Michael Jordan was the man to rival. With that being said, it’s easy to see that these Air Jordan 1 “Atlanta Hawks” pay tribute MJ’s rival Dominique Wilkins, perhaps inspired by the ’87 Atlanta Hawks game when Jordan scored over 60 points, or maybe it was that ’88 Slam Dunk contest. Either way the Atlanta Hawks were always a challenge to MJ’s Chicago Bulls during that era, and when Wilkins played he’d give Michael a run for his money, especially going at it with slam dunk battles and scoring points in games. Dominique Wilkins, who was also known as the Human Highlight Reel, makes his mark so to speak, via film strip texture on the black toebox and side panels, even has the “Formidable Foes” stamp on the insole. (Not to be confused with the “Formidable Foes” Pack which included Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Knicks and “Celtics”, whose release did not receive the “Formidable Foes” stamp on the insole)

Other details of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG features that classic ‘Bred’ look on the leather upper, with the gold Swoosh and matching outsole offering an old school Atlanta Hawks jersey look. The original AJ 1 came out in 1985 and looks to come come back with a vengeance, thanks to a rival-fueled colorway and backstory that just might make it be everyone’s new favorite colorway. And who wouldn’t want a piece of a tribute to the ”Formidable Foes” of the Greatest of all time, Michael Jordan.
