Air Jordan 5 ‘Bel Air’
In September 1990, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air sitcom debuted on television. That same year that Jordan Brand dropped the Air Jordan 5, making 2013 the 23rd anniversary of the shoe. Considering how much Jordan Brand feels about the number 23, is it any wonder these coincidences had any influence on the release date of this shoe? A breathtakingly FRESH new colorway the Air Jordan 5 ‘Bel-Air’, as its name implies, takes inspiration from the very colorful Will Smith character of the legendary 90’s TV sitcom. Known to for his flashy clothing, among them the reversed Bel Air Academy blazer, Will usually showed (everyone) up on set in dope kicks – in the show’s opening scene Will famously rocked the Air Jordan 5 with no laces. With it’s neon pop of colors and wild prints, these kicks personify 90’s fashion fit for a – wait for it – Fresh Prince.
The much talked about Air Jordan 5 ‘Bel Air’ brings to life a theme long awaited by sneakerheads, embodying the story of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and his favortism to the brand in the early ’90s. The kicks feature Jordan’s Cool Grey in nubuck throughout the upper but that’s as monotone as it gets. Pink pops off the “shark teeth” on the midsole, as does a striking purple. Anchoring the look is a icy blue outsole, which shares the bottom with vibrant green portions. Sure to turn heads is the double-color stitched 23 number on the side heel and back heel Jordan logos which are alternating colors from left side to right. Without skipping a beat, the sneaker’s inner lining utilizes a brightly multi-colored print reminiscent of Will Smith’s show outfits, which happens to be different for every individual shoe. As if the colorway wasn’t unique enough, now everyone will have their own different pair of Bel Airs. These kicks are not to be missed.
And just so you don’t miss it, the Air Jordan 5 ‘Bel Air’ will be available October 5th for $185, in-store only at UBIQ Walnut.
