Asics Gel Lyte V: Back For Its 20th

When you talk about classic running sneaker catalogs, Asics can go shot for shot with any brand in the industry. Asics is a performance running brand first and foremost so their primary focus when releasing fresh new products is for top-of-the-line modern runners. However, their classic models from the 80’s and 90’s are still beloved by, both, their growing cult audience and the running community. They’ve realized that they have an opportunity to claim a larger segment of the retro runner market since they have barely scratched the surface when it comes to retro resurrections. Now the Gel Lyte V, originally released in 1993, is back for its 20th in two OG color schemes!┬áThese will be available tomorrow, Friday, October 4th, and are priced at $110, in stores and online!

This classic runner was a favorite among marathon runners for its lightweight frame and superior cushioning. So you know you’re getting the best of the best with these. The shoe is packed with three different Gels in the midsole for extra comfort and the designers abandoned the “split” construction for the Gel Lyte V’s tongue. Instead, they adopted a type of neoprene sock liner for its improved lockdown fit. All of these components of the Gel Lyte V, including the sock-like one piece inner liner, makes these one of the most comfortable and casual shoes that will fit right in with the other already warmly regarded members of the Asics Classics family.

If there is one single colorway that best represents the collective impression left by the 1993 sneakers, it has to be ‘Aqua’ and the Asics Gel Lyte V is getting the Aqua touch in a great grey/purple colorway. This Gel Lyte V features a grey nuback leather, blue mesh that runs to the mid section of the upper, and purple neoprene on the heel and tongue. The striking upper sits on top of an Asics’ trademark gel-cushioned sole that flaunts pristine white on the midsole with a touch of grey at the rear, and fluorescent baby blue on the front of the outsole to match the logo outline and inner lining.

The White/Purple/Black colorway branches off the Aqua color scheme of the shoe broken down above and features minimal green accents on a predominantly white upper, midsole and inner lining. Purple claims the embroidered logos and heel swatches.

After being relatively obscure for years, the Asics Gel Lyte V will be reemerging tomorrow, fully equipped with that universally loved timeless look. Check out our website or come to UBIQ Walnut to see these in person. They will be available starting tomorrow for $110.
