Concepts x New Balance 998 “C-Note”
The guys over at Concepts have linked up with New Balance again to rework one of their classic shoes this fall. The pair in question is the 998, with the idea to make it look like the new one-hundred dollar bill from our good friends at the Federal Reserve. Although the actual C-note currency piece won’t be issued by the U.S. Mint until later in October, these inspired kicks will see a UBIQ in-store only release at 10AM EST on Saturday, September 28th, for $175.
Okay, the first thing you’re probably saying is “If this shoe is inspired by money, where’s the green?” Well, that was our first reaction anyway. Instead of going that obvious route though they chose to match the highlights of the shoe with the more detailed parts of the bill. The majority of the unique multicolored upper is done in off-white suede with an olive suede heel panel, white mesh toe box, grey mesh around the collar, and reflective silver elements throughout. Copper accenting represents the same color stamping on bills. The midsole takes on a predominately vintage light yellow color that switches to white toward the forefoot. This color combination is way closer to a real one-hundred dollar bill than green would be, so bravo to them for not taking the easy way out. A thick Royal Blue strip makes an appearance on the midsole as well, to represent the bill’s 3D security ribbon. Tongue branding includes a “MADE IN THE U.S.A” reminder, as they’ve been doing. Finally, the shoe sits on a classic looking black outsole with New Balance’s signature grip pattern.
This isn’t the first collaboration shoe between Concepts and New Balance, but it’s seriously looking like the best one so far. To quote Swingers, “You’re so money and you don’t even know it!” Swing by UBIQ to cop a pair on Saturday, September 28th, at 10AM EST. They’re going for $175.
