Nike – Kobe 8 “Pit Snake”
The Black Mamba is the fastest snake in the world. If that wasn’t bad enough, it’s also the longest poisonous snake in Africa, armed with a bite that is almost always fatal. It’s long been said that Kobe embodies the persona of this deadly reptile, so Nike set out to exemplify that through a new edition of his latest signature shoe. The “Pit Viper” is the first Kobe 8 release to evolve the snake aesthetic from inspiration to photo-realism. They wanted to capture the nocturnal nature of the snake with darker colors while aligning its predator instincts with the dynamic fit and traction Bryant’s kicks are already known for. The Kobe 8 “Pit Viper” is available for $140 at UBIQ on October 5th; in-store at 10AM EST and online at 11AM EST.
The Raspberry Red visceral scale pattern dominates the upper, split down the middle by a solid and therefore slightly lighter shade of the same color. The toe cap and laces are coated with Purple Dynasty, complimenting the intricate scales with a slightly darker hue. Accenting throughout the upper is done using Green Glow. The lining of the shoe and tongue branding are both made up of this bright contrasting color splash, but the real highlight is the Swoosh which has absolutely no problem jumping out past the business of the upper. Kobe’s signature rests on the lateral heel side, right that the tip of the Swoosh. The bottom part of the shoe takes a much more neutral route, opting instead for a smooth black midsole and mellow grey outsole to balance out the detailing of the upper. The outsole maintains the same herringbone grip pattern as previous editions, which is known for being the best traction featured on any of his models. We’ve got the venomous “Pit Viper” at UBIQ for $140 on October 5th; in-store at 10AM EST and online at 11AM EST. For now, here’s a video of the Black Mamba snake doing all types of ill stuff.
